It has finally been confirmed that there are only 13-15 episodes left for Game of Thrones. The executive producers David Beinoff and DB Weiss only ever wanted to do around 73 episodes and that will break down season 7 to seven episodes, leaving season 8 with only 6. This isn't too surprising considering the budget for this show grows with every season and since there are momentous battles to come for Westeros with the living and the undead there will be a lot of CGI for those white walkers and dragons. They also stated that this is one story and they want it to be cohesive. Characters are finally in their places (or on their way). Alliances have been made and though there is still plenty more to come everything good must come to an end. The season 6 finale was extended to 75 minutes, so we can only hope the season 7 finale will be extended. I'm also sure the series finale will be extended as well. This is my assumption, but I think it will be around 2 hours. That's not unheard of in the industry today. The series finale of Lost was 2.5 hours and the season 6 finale of The Walking Dead was 1.5 hours. I have no doubt that a majority of fans will be happy with the last episode even though we'll all be crying on the inside.
